CIVILIZED HUNGER OF AN ALLIANCE

As Spain's King Juan Carlos I hugs American President George W. Bush during a bilateral State Visit, millons of citizens of the worls starve in the poor nations widespread thoughtout the Continents of the globe.
When Spain’s King Juan Carlos I spoke before the U. N. General Assembly and called for “an alliance of all civilizations”, he was confirming Spain’s sponsorship of the concept that the world first heard from the lips of Spain’s Prime Minister when he assumed office in 2004.
Today, Rodríguez Zapatero´s proposal, with the co-sponsorship of Turkey, makes it necessary for the United Nations Organization to find solutions to cultural differences amongst its members through a better understanding of each other rather than by the rule of force and consequently wars.
Although we applaud any and all initiative towards peace just as we condemn war and terrorism, we must face the crude facts that have brought our civilized world to this point of misunderstanding, confrontation and lack of hope.
The 60th. Session of the General Assembly was supposed to stand out as a landmark of the reforms within the Organization, that would permit hope to improve the international relations of its member states. However, after the first speeches and in lieu of the final agreement of the text signed by the dignitaries in representation of their respective delegations, Secretary General Annan has had to admit that the will to resolve the world’s problemas at date is so weak in some and even inexistent in others. The wealthy nations have hardly moved from their original stance for decades and the poor nations co
ntinue to face famine, misery and death by the thousands.
We say to the leaders of the nations of the world, above all to those that cluster around the symbol of understanding that the United Nations Organization is supposed to stand for – Is it an alliance that is needed or simply a bit of charity to feed the hungry, cure the sick and protect the defenseless ?
We are all out for any alliance that will indeed attend to these basic needs of the Human Race, irrespective of their cultures, their religious beliefs, their races, their political tendencies or even their respective political leaders.
No one man, no matter how powerful he may be has the right to deny another human being the right to live in dignity and peace. And this is, in our opinion, what many world leaders fail to practice; thereby committing with their arrogant show of power, economic or otherwise, to sow their real evil natures.
The sad look in Annan´s appearances in public must be a faithful reflection of the frustration and pain in him, not only for being incapable of swinging the leaders towards his humanitarian stance but also because of his knowledge that once more the United Nations has failed miserably to defend the citizens of the world against the mighty.
For any human with an empty stomach, the sky as roof over its heads and plagued by disease, to talk about civilizations that are no more and future that will never be, will not resolve his misery and suffering of today.
Are we that blind not to see that all apparent actions to aid the needed in spectacular scenarios and with no clear results only tend to make the misery of the unfortunate third-class citizens of the poor nations of the world even more pronounced ? With the funds spent in such events, hundreds of thousands of persons could be fed, thousands of children cured and thousands more of lives saved.

Let us wake up to reality. Let us indeed make an alliance among human beings, but not for show but rather for action. Let us not stay indoors protected and open the gate towards the world in despair and understand better their true sorrows. Only then can we respect them and then engage ourselves to truly act in their favor.
